Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world and is home to particularly diverse ecosystems with rare species. More than 200,000 species of plants and animals are found only in Madagascar and nowhere else in the world. Unfortunately, more than 90% of the country’s forests have now been destroyed. Among them are the so important mangrove forests, which protect the coastal regions from erosion and are home to a very special biodiversity. The island is home to more than 25 million people, many of whom depend on agriculture to feed themselves and their families.
